The truth is that there are various types of facelift procedures depending on the amount of sagging in the skin. Not all candidates require a full facelift. They range from the Neck lift, Mini-facelift, Limited Incision Facelift to the full Facelift. If you were going to have a procedure, imagine your skin and underlying tissue being gently lifted back to the proper position. In essence, your results should look like a younger, rejuvenated version of yourself. Fact: You may have friends or have seen people in passing that have already had facelifts. A great result means you will not know unless told. In our practice, we have our patients bring personal photos in their younger years to their consultation. This is a good visual to show patients what to expect with their results. A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will explain which procedure is right for you.
2. A Neck lift should take care of my jowls.
A neck lift is designed to remove fat and skin from under the chin and tighten superficial neck muscles only. It will not rejuvenate the jawline or cheek area as will a facelift. (A facelift will address the cheek, Jawline, and neck area).
3. Any physician that advertises a facial surgery should be qualified to perform a facelift.
There are cosmetic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons and plastic surgeons that perform facial procedures. To ensure you are seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, check out www.plasticsurgery.org and see if your doctor is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Also, ask your primary care or close friends for a referral. During your consultation, make sure the doctor fully explains the procedure and shows several before and after photos of his/her work. Ask how many he/she performed.
Facelifts require artistry, skill, and experience. Finding the right plastic surgeon will ensure the best results.
