Before you meet a plastic surgeon, before you look at his/her before and after results, before you read his/her resume, before you even talk to his/her staff to ask basic questions, you need to check to see if he/she is board certified in plastic surgery (American Board of Plastic Surgery) and a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) . Then you need to check to see if the facility is accredited.
Many cosmetic surgeons are trained and board certified in a specialty other than plastic surgery. They can legitimately claim to be board certified, but not in plastic surgery.
There are many cosmetic surgeons in this country; a small percentage are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and members of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and are considered “plastic surgeons.” ASPS Member Surgeons:
