Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. An implant is placed through an incision under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. Most patients are back to work in two weeks.
The choice of implant usually dictates the route of insertion – under the arm, under the breast fold or around the nipple. Available implants have an outer silicone rubber shell filled with saline or silicone gel. The implants come in various shapes, sizes, and surfaces.
